Shell MIDEL - Transformer Ester Fluids
More Reliable and Safer Power Networks
Shell MIDEL ester transformer fluids not only protect transformers with their fire-resistant and biodegradable properties, but also help protect the environment around these transformers.
Shell MIDEL synthetic and natural ester transformer fluids offer a range of benefits used by utilities and transformer manufacturers around the world.
Because we offer a wide range of ester fluids, we help customers understand the different ester types so they can select the most suitable technology for their applications.
Key Benefits
Uncompromised Fire Safety
Classified as K Class fluids with high flash and fire points, these fluids are less flammable and can help limit the spread of transformer fires, protecting surrounding property, people, and the environment.
Cold Climate Performance
With extremely low pour points down to -56°C, these fluids provide highly effective performance for installations in cold climate conditions.
Environmental Protection
Being biodegradable and classified as non-hazardous, these fluids can reduce containment requirements. Shell MIDEL ester transformer fluids contain both synthetic and naturally derived esters.
Enhanced Moisture Tolerance
Shell MIDEL ester transformer fluids can absorb significantly more moisture than conventional mineral oils without compromising dielectric properties, helping maintain the integrity of solid insulation.
Cost Savings
The fire safety characteristics of Shell MIDEL can reduce the need for fire protection measures, potentially lowering substation space requirements and costs including construction and insurance.
Longer Asset Life
Higher operating temperatures and sustained overload capability can improve transformer reliability, helping extend service life and ensure operational continuity.
